Shekou Port Area
Developed by Shekou Industrial Park of China Merchants, Shekou Port Area is the earliest port built in Shenzhen, established in January of 1981 and opened to the foreign ships in December of the same year. So far, it has 37 operational berths of 500dwt, of which 12 are deep water berths of over 10,000dwt and the largest one are 75,000dwt. There are 5 special container berths of 50,000dwt or above, with the total frontage of 5985.1m.
The major enterprises in the port area are: Merchants Port Services (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd, mainly dealing with general and bulk cargo services and passenger services; Shekou Container Terminal Co., Ltd, mainly dealing with containers operation; Shekou Merchants Petrochemical Co., Ltd, exclusively dealing with petrochemicals; Hongkong Youlian Shipyards (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd, which is the only shipyard base in the western port area in Shenzhen. Moreover, there is Shenzhen Salvage Station of Guangzhou Salvage Bureau of Ministry of Transportation.
In 2003, the cargo throughput amounted to 30.794 million tons, accounting for 27.4% of the total, of which the container throughput was 2.407 million TEUs, and the passenger throughput was 1.798 million person-times.
Chiwan Port Area
Developed and operated by China Nanshan Development (Group)Co., Ltd., Chiwan Port Area was opened in 1983 and opened for the foreign ships in May 1984. Currently, Chiwan Port Area owns 13 operational berths of 500dwt or above, of which 10 are the deep-water berths of over 10,000dwt and the maximum calling capacity is of 70,000dwt, 4 special container berths of over 50,000dwt; as well as 7 special berths of the Nanhai Petroleum Logistics Base, constituting of the total berth length of 3710.4m.
Chiwan Port Area is the important deep-water transshipment port area and the superb logistics base of Nanhai Petroleum. The west part is the commercial terminal area, in which Chiwan Port and Shipping Co., Ltd handles the general and bulk cargo, and Chiwan Container Terminal Co., Ltd deals with containers; the east part is Nanhai Petroleum Logistics Base and Guangju Energy, Chiwan Petroleum and Gas Branch Company. Chiwan Port Area is one of the main bulk transshipment bases of import an export of bulk chemical fertilizers in China.
The cargo throughput of 2003 was 25.079 million tons, accounting for 22.4% of the total capacity of the port, of which the container throughput was 2.2284 million TEUs.
Mawan Port Area
Developed by Shenzhen Nanyou Group, Mawan Port Area was began to build in 1987. The first multi-purpose berth of 35,000dwt was built in July 1990 and opened to the foreign ships in October of the same year. Now it owns 13 operational berths of 500dwt or above, of which 8 are deep-water berths of 10,000dwt or above, and the maximum calling capacity of 50,000dwt, with the total berth length of 3218m. It also owns a navy logistics terminal of 5000dwt.
Mawan Port Area is faced with Fanshi Waterway of the mouth of Pearl River mainly with the rising tide and little content of sands. With the 8500m channel to the port, the 11m natural water depth, and the maximum 50,000dwt in the time of tide, it is a magnificent port area, connecting with the networks of Pearl River to establish a nice transshipment station. With all above, it also enjoys the brand logistics area, with which it can expand a large-scaled warehouse base.
The key enterprises including: Haixin Port Development Co., Ltd dealing with bulk cargo and bulk cement, as well as the container shipping business; Moon Bay Oil Terminal Co., Ltd, Meishi Power Station Terminal and Leyi Liquid Warehouse Co., Ltd, specifying in oil products and liquefied chemical products; Mawan Power Co., Ltd Terminal dealing with unloading business of the coal especially for generating electricity.
The cargo throughput of 2003 was 16.87 million tons, accounting for 15% of the total throughput, of which the container throughput was 301,000 TEUs.
Dongjiaotou Port Area
Developed by Shenzhen Shipping Company, Dongjiaotou Port Area was opened to the foreign ships in June 1987. Currently, there are 5 operational berths with the maximum calling capacity of 3000dwt and the total berth length of 389.5m.
In the port area, Zhenhua Harbor Enterprise mainly handles with the general and bulk cargo, and container transit business to Hongkong Port; Shekou Oil Warehouse and Yangu Warehouse mainly deals with the products of oil and gas storehouse.
The cargo throughput in 2003 was 2.7856 million tons, accounting for 2.5% of the whole port, in which the container throughput was 157,600 TEUs.
