Yantian Port Area

Developed by Shenzhen Yantian Port(Group) Co., Ltd, Yantian Port Area was opened in Nov 1991 and opened to the foreign ships at the same year. Currently, there are 9 operational berths, of which 9 are deep-water berths of 10,000dwt or above, 7 are special container berths with the maximum calling capacity. The total berth length is 3491.6m.

Yantian Port Area is situated in the northwest part of Dapeng Bay area, 14 sea miles from the mouth of Dapeng Bay. Dapeng Bay is a superb natural harbour, enjoying deep water and mild waves which rarely found in South China, with the 10km width in the mouth of the bay, 250 square meters water areas and 10-20m depth in the water. The water way of this port area is natural. It is the main port area which majoring in the development of container transportation.

Since the cooperation in container business between Yantian Port Group and Hongkong Hutchison Co., Ltd in 1994, Maersk Sealand, APL and OOCL have opened regular liner routes in Yantian Port Area one by another, creating favorable conditions for Shenzhen Port as the container hub port in South China.

Yantian International Container Terminal Co., Ltd mainly deals with container business; Yantian Port Co., Ltd deals with container lighterage and general & bulk cargo.

The cargo throughput of 2003 was 28.629 million tons, accounting for 25.54% of the total, of which the container throughput was 5.449 million TEUs.
